Disrupting the recruitment market 10 reasons why organisations are turning to Talent Mapping

Back in 2015, I read an article on Talent Mapping. The key takeout at that time was that whilst many organisations, particularly those within the Utilities, Energy & Infrastructure sectors, understood the value of talent mapping, but very few were making the use of it that they should.

Fast forward 4 years and I am pleased to say that this seems to have changed. Here at Resourceful Pro, we have seen a surge in popularity over the past 9-12 months in organisations wanting to engage with our Talent Mapping capability.

For those not in the know, in short, talent mapping is a tool that is designed to support Boards, Executives, and HR/Talent Acquisition teams to fill both short-term recruitment needs whilst also supporting medium and longer-term workforce planning initiatives.  But mapping, when done well and done properly, has a large number of secondary outcomes that can be achieved.

Here are the Resourceful Pro’s Talent Mapping team’s top 10 reasons why companies are increasingly turning to Talent Mapping over more conventional recruitment methodologies.

  1. Immediate & Strategic Recruitment – getting visibility of your target demographic across target organisations, industries and locations gives you a wealth of data from which you can plan and execute a comprehensive recruitment campaign irrespective of timeframe.
  2. Internal Benchmarking – knowing the people and skills out in the external market allows you to undertake a rigorous assessment of your internal capability.
  3. Faster Decisions – extended times to hire costs an organisation. Talent mapping frequently starts before the recruitment process itself meaning that when it’s time to hire,  you have cultivated an activated candidate pool and can minimise the cost to business of having a role sat empty.
  4. Perception Branding – through a comprehensive talent map, you can share your company’s EVP and brand with a target demographic. Building your brand amongst the people you will want to hire is critical to making you the first call and employer of choice when a candidate becomes active.
  5. Value for Money – typical recruiting services are charged on a percentage per hire. This means multiple hires can sometimes translate to multiple fees and high costs. Talent Maps at Resourceful Pro are charged on a fixed-cost model meaning you are free to hire as many people from our maps within any timescale without receiving additional recruitment fees.
  6. Diversity – visibility of your typical talent market gives you a clear understanding of where you need to focus on diverse hires whether that be across industry, gender, location, skills, education.
  7. Hiring Time – Recruitment and particularly the front end of recruitment is time-consuming. Outsourcing the talent identification and engagement process frees up your internal teams to focus on what they do well and getting better value from their time.
  8. Succession Planning – scouting high-potential and leaders of the future via mapping provides organisations with a robust succession plan that will strengthen and complement your internal employee talent development initiatives.
  9. Competitor Analysis – mapping your industry and competitors gives you visibility to the size, skills, salary structures or organisational structure of your competitors. It also gives you confidence that you know you can recruit when you need to.
  10. Salary Benchmarking – including a salary benchmark element within your talent mapping exercise allows you to compare your salary and benefits packages with the market.

One of the downsides we have often heard from organisations is that talent mapping becomes a data dump and unless actioned, it can sometimes become obsolete quite quickly.

This is one of the reasons why Resourceful Pro has designed our Talent Pipelining service. Part marketing, part branding and part recruitment, we manage ongoing engaged communication with your talent map. This enables companies to continually build their name as well as a way to refresh the talent pool as required.
